In order to ensure your smile can continue to thrive, it is important to routinely check your mouth from any indications of tooth slippage or bad bites. If a bad bite, also called a malocclusion, is present, it will need to be treated with an orthodontic therapy to straighten your smile.

If you have any malocclusions with your incisors, they will need orthodontic therapy. The numerous versions that can arise with your incisors including misplaced midlines, underbites, crossbites, overbites, deep bites, and open bites. In addition, if teeth have erupted above the gum line in the wrong spots, or if there are spaces and gaps that are incorrect between teeth, they will need to be repositioned back to their proper location. Furthermore, rotation malocclusions can arise, in which teeth rotate out of alignment.

If you’re preparing to have a tooth extraction, it’s important to make sure that your mouth has the proper chance to heal. Otherwise your mouth may be at a higher risk of infection or damage. Listed below are a few tips to help keep the process moving smoothly:

– The most important thing to do after a tooth extraction is to get plenty of rest. You’ll want to avoid heavy labor or exercise.
– If your dentist, Dr. Jaime Rivera, offers any instructions for your recovery, it is always important to follow them. If you have any questions about your extraction recovery, do not hesitate to ask Dr. Jaime Rivera or a member of our dental staff.
– Should any problems or irregularities occur during the recovery phase, such as abnormal levels of bleeding or infection, be sure to contact your dentist.
– Your face and jaw may experience some forms of swelling, but ice packs and medications can keep it at a minimum. Always use medications as prescribed by your dentist and do not overdose.
– Do not attempt to drink or eat anything until your anesthesia has completely worn off, as it can present a choking hazard.
– When you do eat, make sure that you choose foods that are soft and not likely to irritate the site of extraction, such as mashed potatoes, smoothies and pasta.

Rivera Orthodontics wants to help your smile shine no matter what condition it is in. If you need an extraction, please contact our dentist office in El Paso, Texas, by calling us at 915-592-5853. Your smile is our business!

If your smile is improperly rotated, you probably are suffering from a malocclusion. Malocclusions are bad bites and misalignments present with your teeth and jaw. Bad bites can be the result of the environment, oral accidents, genetics, bad habits, improper oral hygiene, and a host of other conditions. Frequent malocclusions that require the aid of orthodontic treatment include:

– Misplaced midlines are present when your upper incisors fail to align with your lower incisors.
– Overbites, also called buck teeth, are present when your upper incisors stick out past your lower incisors.
– Crossbites are present when your lower jawbone sticks out past your upper jawbone.
– Rotation malocclusions are present when teeth are not in their proper location and position.
– Underbites, also called bulldog teeth, are present when your lower incisors stick out past your upper incisors.
– Transposition malocclusions are present with teeth erupt above the gum line in the wrong space.
– Open bites are present when your upper and lower incisors failed to connect when biting down.
– Spacing malocclusions are present if you have overcrowded teeth, too many teeth, and irregular gaps between teeth.

Don’t wait until it’s too late for an orthodontic treatment for a malocclusion. Have you ever been in for a malocclusion exam? A malocclusion is an alignment issue with your teeth or jaw where they do not function or align as intended. Usually, malocclusions can be fixed with orthodontic treatments and therapies designed to straighten smiles and improve oral health.

Most malocclusions occur within the incisors, which are the front teeth in the mouth. They are prominently presented on both the upper and lower rows in your jaw. Various types of incisor malocclusions include deep bites (also called closed bites), overbites (also called upper protrusions or buck teeth), misplaced midlines, open bites, and underbites (also called bulldog teeth).

Other forms of malocclusions include transposition malocclusions, spacing malocclusions, and rotation malocclusions. Transposition malocclusions arise when teeth erupt above the gumline in the wrong locations. Spacing malocclusions include abnormal gaps and overcrowded teeth. Rotation malocclusions are simply teeth that have rotated out of their proper alignments.  Another common type of malocclusion that is often treated with orthodontic braces is crossbites, which occurs when the lower jawbone sticks out past the upper jawbone.

If you would like to schedule an appointment with Rivera Orthodontics to see if you are a candidate for malocclusion treatments, please call Dr. Jaime Rivera and the rest of our team at our orthodontic office in El Paso, Texas at 915-592-5853. If you require braces due to a misalignment in your teeth, our wonderful team at Rivera Orthodontics can get you on the path to a straighter smile in no time. Braces seek to straighten your teeth for a healthier smile. With braces, you can correct crooked teeth and set them straight once more. Orthodontic braces can give you the smile you have been longing for.

With orthodontic braces, you can enhance your self-esteem by improving your smile. A straighter smile is a happier smile and the first step to a more effective self-image. Straighter teeth are also easier to clean and care for, as plaque has fewer voids to hide in when brushing and flossing.

Orthodontic braces can help repair your alignment and lower your risks for dental damage due to bruxism and temporomandibular disorders. Teeth with severe malocclusions are also likely to suffer from chips and cracks due to the grinding and wear they receive when brushing against each another.

If you would like to schedule an orthodontic treatment session, simply call our orthodontic office in El Paso, Texas, at our number 915-592-5853. Dr. Jaime Rivera and our entire team await. The time is now to make the change you wish to see in your oral health.

Although cleaning and caring for your braces is normally a simple task, it oftentimes gets overlooked and neglected. Keeping your braces clean is a vital part of keeping your braces effective. If they cannot work correctly, your recovery time will increase.

One of the best ways to keep your braces safe and clean is to always wear protective guards when partaking in any high-risk activities, including contact sports. This is important because braces are not shields for your teeth, as they neither seek to defend your teeth from harm nor are they indestructible. If you should break your braces, do not attempt to fix them yourselves. Visit your orthodontist as soon as you can.

To keep your orthodontic treatment on schedule, continue to practice safe and effective brushing and flossing daily habits. You can always switch to alternative methods if traditional tools such as dental floss cannot be used. Other dental tools include using tools such as water flossers or mouthwash to assist in your daily dental care.

If you are interested in treatment for your braces or to get a pair of braces, we are here to assist you. For a complete diagnosis and treatment, please contact Rivera Orthodontics to book an appointment with Dr. Jaime Rivera and our team at our dentist office in El Paso, Texas. Call us at 915-592-5853. We look forward to seeing you smile.

Did you know that Invisalign® can treat broken smiles and give you back the straight shine you have lost? Invisalign is nearly invisible so it can work hard for your mouth with little to no interference in your life. Overcoming bad smiles with Invisalign is possible in part due to these fantastic benefits:

– Invisalign features breakthrough technology that allows the aligners to be detached at will, which means there are no food restrictions, and you can eat as your heart desires, as long as you remove the treatments before each meal.
– Invisalign removes the stigma of outmoded braces by allowing them to be worn discreetly, often without others noticing them.
– Invisalign aligners are extremely effective at correcting various oral health ailments including pain from TMJ disorders, damage caused by bruxism, and most of all, malocclusions, which are bad bites and misalignments with your smile.
– As your treatment progresses, so too will your aligners, which can be easily removed and replaced if necessary.
– Invisalign aligners are skillfully crafted without the use of metals thanks to their patented thermoplastic design, which allows them to be fully customized and designed to fit the needs of each patient.

Do you know how to protect your mouth as a teen? A teenager often faces multiple risks due to the pressures of their social settings, but environmental factors also play an increased role, especially with their oral health. Due to the last adult teeth erupting above the gum line, malocclusions are more common, and teeth are at a greater risk for getting knocked out of their natural alignment. For information about oral health perils and orthodontic treatment for teens, here are a few frequently asked questions:

What is the greatest form of orthodontic treatment for a teen?
– Each individual case determines which treatments work best, but clear orthodontic aligners are highly effective for fixing crooked teeth with teens due to their clear exterior and lack of metal wires for a more socially conforming look during treatment.

What are some standard everyday risks that could easily affect the oral health of a teen?
– Although many bad bites may happen naturally to your smile, teens face higher risks of oral damage than many due to the increased prevalence of bad habits such as wearing mouth jewelry, chewing or smoking tobacco, using drugs, even recreational ones, as well as competing in contact sports without the use of safety gear.

What form of safety equipment should be used for teens who play contact sports?
– To better protect your teeth, wear safety masks, mouth guards, facemasks, and helmets whenever applicable.

No matter which service you choose to treat your smile, the real importance is to ensure proper treatment is given. If you would like Dr. Jaime Rivera and our team at Rivera Orthodontics to bring you in for an oral exam to determine which orthodontic treatment is best for you, please contact our office in El Paso, Texas, by calling us at 915-592-5853.
